Our most energy-efficient operable window replacement is our casement window with High Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass option. Read on as Renewal by Andersen® of Phoenix shares why we recommend this product for optimum energy savings and indoor comfort:
The Most Energy-Efficient Operable Window Style
An energy-efficient window should be able to achieve an airtight seal when closed. The objective is to prevent heat transfer, which leads to heat loss during cold days, and heat gain during hot days, resulting in increased energy consumption due to higher indoor heating and cooling requirements.
Typical window styles like double-hung windows and gliding windows have sashes that slide along the frame. While we produce some of the best in the business, over time the slightest gap in those window types (especially cheaper ones) could introduce a leak that would allow heat transfer. Even if the windows are precision-built, expansion and contraction due to temperature changes could still allow such gaps. Our casement window sashes, on the other hand, press against the frame when closed, forming an efficient seal. It also greatly helps that we use our proprietary Fibrex® material, which is known for its incredible performance during any season.
High Performance Low-E4 SmartSun Glass
Glass is a naturally conductive material, which means traditional, single-panel glass readily allows heat transfer; the larger the glass area, the greater the chances of high energy bills. This is why all Renewal by Andersen replacement windows have dual-panel glass as a standard feature. Heat conduction is dramatically reduced by eliminating contact between interior and exterior surfaces.
Heat from the sun – that is, infrared – is another source of heat. Being a form of light, it can penetrate any clear glass, even dual-panel glass. To counter this, all Renewal by Andersen High-Performance Low-E4 glass packages feature Low-emissivity (Low-E) coatings. This coating selectively blocks unwanted infrared and UV rays while letting through as much visible light as clear glass does.
For the ultimate protection against harsh sunlight, we recommend choosing our High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun glass package. It has all the energy-efficiency features of our other glass packages, but blocks almost all unwanted rays. When installed on our casement windows, you can expect significant energy savings and enjoy the benefits of increased natural light in your home, minus the heat.
