Kitchen sink windows are one of those things that you might not think of very often, but you’d immediately feel their absence when window replacement occurs without it. Windows generally draw the eye—perhaps because they’re analogous to the human eye—but kitchen sink windows doubly so, because kitchen sinks contribute a third of the action in this room.
There are ways to make your kitchen sink windows stand out, however. At Renewal by Andersen® of Phoenix, we have a couple of suggestions to share.
Make sure the kitchen sink and the window above it complements each other in terms of style and design. For example, a contemporary window style, such as gliding windows, may not always look at home in a kitchen inspired primarily by art deco. Pair eras and designs together.
Colors are also a big part of design. Unless your kitchen is boho chic, opt for neutral colors for both the kitchen sink and the window for a safe choice, since neutrals go well with each other and most other colors. For example, a black-trimmed window can match almost anything—from color to material. Note, however, that neutrals are more of a modern mainstay, so again, if you’re looking for a more flamboyant design, steer clear of neutrals and look for colors with more zest.
Big windows over your sink can allow your eyes to wander, especially if the space outside the kitchen is a play area for children. In addition, the bigger the window, the more natural light and ventilation it can admit. Both of these aspects can play into your energy efficiency goals—one by reducing your reliance on natural light, and the other by driving down the kitchen’s humidity passively.
Don’t forget your cabinet. The color of your cabinets highlights not only your sink but also your new windows. A light-colored window combined with dark-colored cabinets will stand out and spruce up your kitchen’s appearance.
