The best asset of gliding window systems is alsp its greatest weakness: wide glass. It’s true they admit a profusion of sunlight and capture expansive views. However, these benefits usually come with certain downsides.
At Renewal by Andersen® of Phoenix, we solve the common side effects of having gliding windows with our proprietary High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass. Here’s how:
Excessive Heat Gain
With inefficient glazing, the broad glass of gliding windows absorbs most of the solar heat that passes through it, turning any room into a furnace. With our Low-E4 glass, though, only a small portion of light can come through. Its top-rated package, the SmartSun™ glass, only admits 28% of solar heat. Despite its exceptional reflectivity, it doesn’t block a lot of visible light, allowing the transmission of 65% sunshine.
In other words, you can leave your sliders with Low-E4 SmartSun glass closed without worrying about excessive heat gain. The same can also be said about our double-hung, bay, bow, specialty, picture and casement window systems when reinforced with this glass option.
Intense Sun Damage
If the low-performance glass can’t stop the heat, it won’t deflect enough UV radiation either. Its broadness leaves the interior prone to fading.
Our Low-E4 SmartSun glass won’t eliminate UV light completely, but it can bounce 95% of it back outside. By allowing just a measly 5% of the sun’s UV rays, your valuables can stay vibrant for a much longer period.
Sliding windows are usually hard to clean because they tend to be installed high on the wall. Their staggered sashes further increase the difficulty level of wiping the outer side of the glass. This is especially true when they’re located upstairs.
Apart from their lift-out feature, our sliding windows’ Low-E4 glass reduces the time spent on maintenance by keeping dirt buildup to a minimum. Choosing any of our glass packages for your window replacement would deliver similar, excellent results.
The outside of the exterior pane comes with a microscopic titanium dioxide coating, which makes the surface smoother to shed water more easily. When exposed to the sun, the UV light incites photocatalytic action that loosens the dirt, letting water to wash it away faster. Also, this chemical process increases the evaporation rate of the glass, allowing it to dry cleaner and reducing water spotting by up to 99%.
